Yacht takes city message global

Edinburgh is one of ten cities entering the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2009/10.

The yacht Edinburgh Inspiring Capital was in the city at the beginning of August for a series of events including its official naming ceremony by First Minister Alex Salmond and a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh.

The race began in Hull on 13 September. The entry of Edinburgh Inspiring Capital in the 35,000-mile race has been made possible through a partnership of Scottish businesses sponsoring it.

As well as racing, our yacht will promote the city as a capital place to visit, invest, live, work and study.

The crew come from all walks of life, all of whom will be demonstrating their inspirational qualities.

Included are seven young unemployed people from Edinburgh known as “the Capital Crew”, each of whom will take part in a leg of the race.
