Play your part in the big challenge
Can you cut carbon emissions?
The aim of the Climate Challenge Fund is to help communities take positive action to tackle climate change.
Set up by the Scottish Government in June 2008, the fund supports community efforts to cut carbon emissions.
Since its launch, 11 Edinburgh projects have benefited from the fund.
Successful projects include schemes that reduce local energy use, develop community food production initiatives, encourage people to walk and cycle instead of using a car and raise community awareness about climate change.
How to apply
Grants of up to £1 million are available. A wide range of organisations, including voluntary bodies, community groups, charities and schools can apply.
To be eligible, groups must be community-based in Scotland, legally constituted and run on a not-for-profit basis.
Any kind of community-based project which aims primarily to reduce carbon emissions is eligible.
Carbon emission reduction must be the central focus of the project but any wider environmental, social and economic benefits which improve life for communities now and in the future will be taken into consideration.
