Revving up this Xmas

Our festive plans get bigger and better

Top gear: revellers, such as the Ice palace, are all set for the Homecoming Art Car ParadeThis year, Scotland’s capital is set to sparkle as never before with a bigger and better Christmas line-up that will bring the streets to life and provide festive fun for everyone.

From Thursday 26 November, the Christmas markets, the Edinburgh Wheel and Winter Wonderland are all open for business.

Look out for sparkling musical fountains, giant snow globes, a life- sized animatronic polar bear, a living musical box with balletic acrobatics, street theatre and much much more.

And look out for the Homecoming Art Car Parade on Saturday 28 November with vehicles on display in Parliament Square from 3pm.

Hosted as part of the Homecoming Scotland finale celebrations, this free event features illuminated customised vehicles of all shapes and sizes being pushed, pedalled and driven from the Royal Mile to St Andrew Square.

Produced by artists from all over the country, the line-up includes an ice palace, a dragon car, a fish mobile, a crazy ‘hall of mirrors’ vehicle and many more eccentric creations. The parade itself revs into action at 5pm.

Edinburgh’s Christmas celebrations continue throughout December with Santa Weekend and the Great Scottish Santa Run on 12 and 13 December. There is shopping galore at a variety of markets and in the city’s shops, reindeer, storytelling and Santa in East Princes Street Gardens, skating on the ice rink and all the fun of the fair in Winter Wonderland.
