Rocking back to happiness

Edinburgh is only place to be on Hogmanay

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is the greatest celebration of New Year in the world and this year it is back – bigger and better than ever!

There will be a range of entertainment and events – from ceilidhs to dance, street theatre to live music, clubs to carnivals and fireworks to church services.

The five-day event features exciting new elements such as the specially commissioned dance piece Off Kilter at the Festival Theatre (29 December-2 January) as well as Light Night on 30 December.

Other festive favourites include the Torchlight Procession (29 December), the flagship Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party (31 December), including the Concert in the Gardens, the Keilidh and the return of the New Year’s Conversation.

The Concert in the Gardens headliners on 31 December are the original nutty boys Madness, who are delighted to be performing in Edinburgh at the end of a remarkably successful year which included a critically and commercially successful new album along with a new greatest hits package.

Madness will be supported by The Noisettes on the main stage with DJ sets by Mylo and members of Snow Patrol and Belle and Sebastian on Princes Street.

Rock favourites, The Enemy, meanwhile, headline this year’s Hogmanay Street Party. Performing on the Waverley Stage, the band will be accompanied by some of Scotland’s most interesting young bands, including Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jet Packs and Stanley Odd.
