WOW! Now that's customer service
Council staff member wins award
Eileen Riding is one of a number of people who recently took time out to nominate a Council staff member for a WOW! customer service award.
Eileen, 65, who had not left her home in 14 years, nominated housing support officer Sandra Plummer, who helped her overcome her agoraphobia and even rescued her following a serious injury. Sandra works in the North Neighbourhood Office and began visiting Eileen in 2007. She received her well-deserved award at The WOW! conference in Edinburgh.
Eileen said: “I fell and broke my ankle and I thought I’d just sprained it. Sandra wasn’t supposed to come until Thursday but something told her I was in trouble.
“She came over and got the concierge to open the gate and door. She found me on the floor where I’d been for 36 hours. She called an ambulance and came with me to the hospital where it was discovered I’d broken my ankle.
“She should have been off duty at 4pm but she stayed with me and it was 9pm before she got me home. She made sure I was okay, and phoned my daughter and my doctor.
“My life has completely changed since she came. She is patient, kind and nothing is too much for her,” Eileen added. “I don’t know what I’d do without her.”
