Blooming good show

City's gardens and parks honoured

Edinburgh won a silver-gilt medal in the Britain in Bloom competition, presented at an awards ceremony at Torbay in late September.

Over recent months, the Royal Botanic Garden, horticultural suppliers, academic institutions, research institutes, community groups, the Council and local residents all united under Edinburgh’s blue poppy emblem to represent Scotland in the large city category of the prestigious competition.

The competition addressed three core areas: horticultural achievements, environmental responsibility and community participation.

In Edinburgh’s case, the judges were most impressed by the Botanic Garden, community parks and the work of various ‘friends of parks’ groups.

Thanks are due to everyone who worked so hard to prepare the city for the bid.
