Good progress at depot
Construction work well under way at Gogar Tram Depot
CONSTRUCTION work on the Gogar Tram Depot is now well under way, with daily progress visible from both the road and the railway line.
Before getting to this stage, however, a considerable amount of preparation work on the site had to be undertaken. It had been wasteland for many years.
Since preparation work began in spring 2007, a large high-pressure water main and a gas main, which serviced a large proportion of Edinburgh, had to be diverted.
When complete, the Gogar Depot will be used to house and service the fleet of trams as well as providing accommodation for about 100 employees. The tram system control room will also be based there.
Tramworks across the city will cease from the end of November as part of the annual winter roadworks embargo. Works will resume on 4 January with a programme of activity being rolled out across the tram route. Full details on each area will be available at www.edinburghtrams.com
