Go dark in 2010 for a brighter world
Edinburgh landmarks will switch off lights for Earth Hour
IF you care about the environment, make sure you are part of the massive global phenomenon that is WWF’s Earth Hour.
Earth Hour 2009 saw millions of people around the world ‘go dark’ for an hour to highlight the issue of climate change.
Globally, the lights were turned off at iconic buildings, including the Eiffel Tower, the Sydney Opera House and Table Mountain in Cape Town.
The Forth Bridge, Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish Parliament, the City Chambers, the National Galleries of Scotland and the Scott Monument also turned off their lights.
Thousands of cities took part last time, and now it’s your chance to get involved in Earth Hour 2010. The Council will be working up ideas with its partners to make sure Edinburgh makes a striking contribution.
It’s also a great opportunity for local people to participate in a global event that sends out a clear and visual message to governments around the world of public concern about climate change.
Earth Hour 2010 will take place on Saturday, 27 March 2010 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
