Christmas events in East Edinburgh

Christmas Lights:

It’s not just the city centre where the lights go on – watch the Christmas lights being switched on at Restalrig Road South on Thursday 3 December at 6pm. 

Dancefest 2009:

Bringing together dance groups of all backgrounds for an afternoon celebration of styles, including jazz, hip-hop, Scottish and street dance. At Meadowbank on Friday 4 December, at 4pm. Tickets £5. www.fitness-scotland.com 

Christmas shopping:

Get your Christmas shopping in early at Portobello Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday 29 November at Portobello Town Hall from 10am-4pm. 

Events at The Venchie in Craigmillar: 

Get a bit of early festive shopping done at the Fair Day on Saturday 5 December from 12pm-4pm. There will be Christmas crafts and a special visit by the Santa Harley Davidson Bikers!

So you think you can sing or dance? Strut your stuff at Venchie’s Got Talent on Tuesday 8 December at the Gaff Theatre, 6pm-8pm. Tickets cost £1.50, including refreshments.

Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Breakfast Club, on Friday 11 December from 1pm-3pm. RSVP to 61 Niddrie Mains Terrace, Edinburgh EH16 4NX, or phone 0131 621 7620. 

Annual Christmas Gymnastics Display:

Takes place at Meadowbank on Saturday 5 December from 10am, with tickets at £5. More than 700 performers from ten leisure centres across the city come together to perform a spectacle of gymnastics, trampolining and dance. www.edinburghleisure.co.uk 

Piershill Library:

The library is putting on free events over the festive season: 

Festive Bookstart Rhymetimes, Wednesday 16 December, 2pm-2.30pm.

Snowy Winter Storytime, Friday 18 December, 10.30am to 11am. For under fives and their parents and carers.  

Let’s Go Christmas Crackers, a craft event for six to 12 year olds, Tuesday 22 December, 2.30pm-3.30pm. See library staff to book a free place. 

Favourite Rhymes from 2009, a Bookstart Rhymetime, Wednesday 30 December, 2pm-2.30pm.
