Trip of a lifetime
Portobello High pupil wins trip to NASA
A science-mad Portobello High School pupil won the ultimate trip of a lifetime – to join the astronauts and scientists at NASA.
Leyla Manshouri, above, was one of only ten Scottish students selected to take part in the ten-day study trip in November.
The sixth-year pupil was chosen from 300 hopefuls following a rigorous programme of activities as part of the Scottish Space School this summer. Pupils undertook a number of projects such as designing rockets, simulating moon landings and building heart rate monitors.
The Scottish Space School Programme highlights career and educational opportunities available for those with an interest in science, engineering and technology.
During the visit to NASA, the students experienced space simulators and met scientists and engineers.
Portobello High School head teacher Peigi Macarthur said: “We’re delighted that Leyla was chosen to take part in this exciting project.”
