Local 'lad' returns to Trinity to talk about his work in HM Diplomatic Service

Trinity Academy played host to members of HM Diplomatic Service in October.

Speaking to pupils was the head of Diplomatic Service, Peter Ricketts, and Chris Allen, a local boy from Wardie who is now deputy head of the South Asia Group.

“It’s nice to be back in Edinburgh,” said Chris. “My parents still live here, so I jumped at the chance to come.”

Chris explained why the service makes visits to schools.

“We try to bring foreign policy home and we want to get a cross-section of British society interested in what we do.

“I had no clear idea what I wanted to do when I was 17, but if someone had told me I would be working for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, I’d have been very pleased.”
