Fort residents' early move

New properties mean faster relocation for more than 150 households

The regeneration of Fort House has been brought forward by a year after ongoing consultation between residents, the Council and Port of Leith Housing Association.

Fort House is set to be demolished in 2012-13 as part of the regeneration of the area.

It was expected that the rehousing of more than 150 households would take up to three years because of the shortage of council housing and the large number of families wanting to stay in the same location.

However, a significant number of new properties are also being developed by the Port of Leith Housing Association in the Leith and Newhaven area.

This will mean those living in Fort House will have a wider choice.

And the Council have been working with the Association to bring the regeneration plans forward.

Keith Anderson, chief executive of Port of Leith Housing Association, said: “We’re delighted to help rehouse some of the residents.”
