Christmas events in South Edinburgh

Christmas Lights:

It’s not just the city centre where the lights go on at Christmas...there are a number of switch-on ceremonies in the south side.

  • St Patrick’s Square, Tuesday 1 December, 6pm.
  • Prestonfield Avenue and Prestonfield Terrace, Wednesday 2 December, 6pm.
  • Lauriston Place/Tollcross, Thursday 3 December.
  • Marchmont Crescent & Warrender Park Road, Saturday 5 December, 4.30pm.
  • Morningside Christmas Lights, Monday 7 December, 7pm. 

Pantomime at the King’s Theatre:

The show this year is Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates. The run begins on 28 November and goes on until 17 January.

And at Church Hill Theatre:

Get along to their production of Ali Baba, from 9-20 December. www.ept.org.uk 

Cadenza at Christmas:

An annual feast of festive music with traditional, contemporary and fun carols. It’s on at Polwarth Parish Church, Polwarth Terrace, Saturday 12 December, 7.30pm.

Cadenza and the Mozart Festival Orchestra are also playing at Carols by Candlelight at the Usher Hall on Wednesday 23 December at 7.30pm. www.usherhall.co.uk 

Sick Kids Carols for Christmas:

Also at St Cuthbert’s is the Erskine Christmas Festival Service on Wednesday 9 December and Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday 13 December at 7pm.

Christmas shopping:

For festive shopping, visit Morningside Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday 6 December at Columcille Centre, Morningside from 10am-4pm.
