A high Standard from the South
Three projects from the area honoured in Edinburgh Achievement Awards
Three South Edinburgh projects were honoured with a Standard Life Edinburgh Achievement Award at a ceremony hosted by Grant Stott in November.
Liberton Nursery School was winner in the Creative Approaches category for their storytelling chair.
Children and parents helped design an impressive outdoor storytelling chair crafted by a Scottish sculptor, pictured above.
Their resident storyteller then weaved traditional Scottish stories and songs into the work of the nursery.
Craigour Park Primary School was highly commended in the Creative Approaches category for Ballroom Boom.
Primary 6 pupils put together a performance for their parents and other school pupils, inspired by Strictly Come Dancing.
The children choreographed their own ballroom steps and worked in groups to devise a name, logo, banners, flyers and invitations.
Liberton Gilmerton Youth Forum was highly commended in the Young Edinburgh Citizenship Award for Barrie Wee Gadgies.
The young people involved meet regularly to discuss youth issues and they are currently working on a DVD to be screened at a Neighbourhood Partnership youth engagement seminar.
This youth-led project brings a voice to young people in their area.
