New centre has the Valley Park community dancing!

From tap to ballet, residents can do it all at the new Burdiehouse and Southhouse hub

Residents of Burdiehouse and Southhouse have a brand new community centre that will cater for all needs and interests, making a real difference to people’s lives.

Valley Park Community Centre opened its doors at the end of October.

The new light and airy building on Southhouse Road is open from 9am to 9pm and has a games hall, dance studio, art room, IT room, crèche and café.

Special activities have also been organised for the new community hub. There’s a brand new dance school offering classes in modern, tap and ballet for pre-school children, while older people’s, environmental and women’s groups are also on offer.

Local artist Barbara Middleton and the Southhouse Sheltered House Art Group and Friends created a large colourful piece of artwork entitled ‘Birds of a Feather’ which represents the local area and is on display in the centre.

The Community Centre cost £2.5 million and is the second of two new purpose-built centres in the South Neighbourhood built by the Council.
