Christmas events in South West Edinburgh

Christmas Lights:

Gorgie Dalry Community Council and Gorgie City Farm is holding a switch-on at 6.30pm on Sunday 6 December.

Gorgie War Memorial Community Centre is holding a Christmas drop-in on 5 December from 1pm-3pm with Santa’s lucky dip grotto, mince pies and hot drinks. 338 Gorgie Road, EH11 2QU. Call 0131 346 1976. 

Walk the Water of Leith:

From 6 December (9.30am-4.30pm) explore the 123/4 miles of the Water of Leith river corridor running through the heart of the city, from Balerno to Leith with the countryside rangers. Free return transport to the start. Bring a packed lunch. Meet at the start of walkway, Bridge Road by Balerno High School.

Christmas on the Canal:

Celebrate Christmas on the Re-Union Canal with Santa Cruises on Sunday 6, 13 and 20 December. Each day there will be three separate one hour cruises from 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm. You’ll cruise along the Union Canal from Edinburgh Quay in the company of Santa who will hand out presents for children, while adults can keep warm with mince pies, teas and coffees. Book your places now for £5 per person.

Christmas crafts at Oxgangs Library:

Have fun making your own Christmas cards – a children’s activity – just drop in on Friday 4 December at 2.30pm. 

Christmas Bookstart Rhymetime: Sunday 6 December at 2.30pm, for children aged 0-3 with their parents/carers.

Christmas crafts including glass painting and decorating your own CD case – family event, drop in Sunday 13 December at 2.30pm.

Save money and save the planet – send an e-card. IT taster session for adults on Monday 14 December at 2pm. Please contact the library to book your place.

Children’s Christmas party on Friday 18 December at 2.30pm. Please contact the library to book your place from 4 December. 

Carrickvale Community Centre:

Christmas Celebrations, Friday 18 December, 9.30-11.30am. Get together for carol singing with children from Stenhouse School and other groups performing. Refreshments will be served.

The community centre is also putting on its own panto, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, on Tuesday 22 December at 1.30pm. Tickets cost £1 for children and £2 for adults. Family ticket £5 (maximum of two adults and three children). Maximum three children per adult.
