Saughton Skatepark set for completion in spring

Skaters, BMXers and bladers delighted as long-awaited facility takes shape

Edinburgh skaters are one step closer to getting an outdoor skatepark.

Construction of the Saughton Skatepark has begun and is due to be completed in early spring 2010, depending on weather conditions.

Saughton Park will remain open to the public during construction and every effort will be taken to minimise the disruption to park users, as well as to ensure there is no damage done to the existing mature trees in the park.

The skatepark will have a variety of levels, from beginner areas to challenging competition-standard features, so that kids and more expert riders can enjoy the facilities.

Sam Paterson, spokesperson for the Edinburgh Skatepark Project (ESP), said: “The ESP is delighted that this will be the last summer that the skaters, BMXers and bladers of Edinburgh of all ages will be without a purpose-built skate facility.

“We feel that with the completion of the Saughton Skatepark, Edinburgh will have a facility truly worthy of a capital city.

“It’s been a long wait!”
