Awe-some crime fighting
Council and police form forces
Housebreaking and vehicle crime is being tackled under a joint Council and Police initiative in South West Edinburgh.
Operation Awe has been in force since the beginning of December 2009 in Gorgie, Dalry, Fountainbridge, Polwarth and the surrounding areas.
This operation was stepped up over the festive season with officers on foot patrols and chatting with residents. One frequently raised concern was security in common stairs and rear gardens.
As a result of the operation, two young males in Oxgangs were moved out of the area.
“Results like this are an excellent example of communities working together to enhance their resilience,” said Veronica Wright, community safety manager.
