Get on your bike to work
New scheme loans cycles to commuters
With petrol prices rising and growing concern about the impact of travel on the environment, many of us want to change our commuting habits.
Now, thanks to a new scheme from the Bike Station backed by the Government’s Climate Challenge Fund, thousands of commuters can get help to find a better way to work. The Bike Station has been awarded £750,000 from the Climate Challenge Fund.
Mark Sydenham, project manager at the Bike Station, said: “We ask people to complete a survey on how they travel to work and why they do so. Then we discuss with them whether there are more sustainable options.
“A key benefit is that people can try different methods before making a financial commitment. We offer two-week loans of cycles – for example, lightweight ones or electric bikes. And parents can try child seats and child-carrying trailers.”
