Residents use Waste Action Grant to give unwanted furniture a new home

Co-op takes action

Hunters Hall Housing Co-op members were shocked by the amount of items in good condition that were destined for landfill sites.

The group applied for a Waste Action Grant to buy a container and set up Hunters Hall Reusables for unwanted but reusable items. Volunteers manage the scheme and encourage local people to use the facility. Unwanted furniture goes to Richmond Church second hand furniture sales.

Volunteers arrange for Barnardos and the Edinburgh Furniture Initiative to collect household items.

Unwanted tools and wood are donated to local allotments. Bikes and bike parts go to local teenagers who attend the Bike Station’s “build your own bike” course.
