Each year we do lots of research to make sure Outlook continues to give readers what you want.
This year we’ve had focus groups, a readers’ survey and independent research as well as requests and comments from you compiled on our reader database.
According to the research:
- The neighbourhood wraps are a welcome addition … and you want even more local news
- Distribution can still be an issue but figures are improving, thanks to our checks in all postcodes
- You like information on recycling, refuse collections and local activities
- Outlook layout and design is well received
- Younger readers want the online version updated regularly – we’re looking at how this can happen
- Ethnic groups are keen to see more features about their groups and activities – this is under way.
More than two thirds of you want more information on councillors and regular updates on contentious issues in the city. You especially liked the question and answer format in the December 2009 issue with Council Leader Jenny Dawe discussing the budget.
So, this summer issue combines information on councillors and the big issues for the city.
- You wanted to know what life as the Lord Provost is like. So on page 8 there’s an insight into his diary.
- You wanted serious issues facing the city explained in depth. So on pages 10 and 11 we investigate one of the city’s biggest issues: trams.
- You also had plenty to say when Council Leader Jenny Dawe asked for your views on budget priorities. So, with an even tougher budget looming, read her article on page 4.
- You reported some confusion with mixed member wards and asked to know more about your local councillors. Surgeries are now listed in your neighbourhood pages.
- You want to know more about what the councillors do. From the autumn issue, we will look at all the councillors in your area.
Let us know what you think of our changes.
