Changes to pay are set to improve services
Performance of Council staff to be measured
Changes are under way to modernise pay and conditions for Council staff which will help to improve services for the people of Edinburgh.
The Council consulted staff and trades unions over a package of changes called “Modernising Pay”.
The package is intended to be implemented in October and will change the way Council staff are paid and rewarded. Similar changes are being made across all other UK councils.
Under Modernising Pay, a new scheme will measure staff performance each year. The aim is to encourage and recognise excellent results as well as improving services for Edinburgh.
Some public holidays will change to flexible leave so staff can take these holidays when they wish. This may allow some public-facing services to be available during holidays.
GOOD TO KNOW:
The proposals will ensure that the Council:
- meets equal pay legislation for male and female workers
- improves services for citizens
- introduces working practices that are in line with other modern organisations.
