Carole is off to the Games!
Residents will represent Edinburgh in Commonwealth closing ceremony
Three lucky Edinburgh residents will take the trip of a lifetime when they attend the Delhi Commonwealth Games this year.
Carole Taylor, Morgan McGuire and Laura Thomson will represent Edinburgh in the Games’ closing ceremony on 14 October.
This will include the official handover of the Commonwealth torch to Scotland – the beginning of an amazing journey for athletes, citizens and Scottish communities preparing for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.
The performance will involve a mass choreographed dance routine, featuring about 400 amateur volunteers from all over Scotland.
The competition was part of a national search, where each of Scotland’s local authorities were assigned three paid places and asked to reward volunteers.
Carole has previously represented the city in several sports and is still involved with women’s hockey, while Laura coaches Boroughmuir Thistle Girls Football Club and other primary and high schools.
Morgan helps young people to achieve their goals, particularly through the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, as part of the Early Intervention Project in Craigmillar and for special needs groups.
He will be sharing his Delhi experience with the young people he helps motivate.
