Tale of the people who built the trams
The tram project is the largest infrastructure project undertaken in Edinburgh, and perhaps Scotland, in living memory.
It’s a complex and lengthy journey which, by its conclusion, will have involved thousands of workers from across the UK and overseas, in a variety of disciplines.
To document this historic process, a book has been commissioned to record the work the people who built the trams.
Edinburgh writer and award-winning journalist Kenny Kemp, who is compiling the illustrated journal, said: “The book will be a fascinating story of the skills required to undertake this major engineering project and is one that is too important to be lost.
“There’s a great deal of humour in dealing with the day-to-day challenges, often in the filthiest of conditions, and I hope the text will reflect this and be something of a souvenir for all those who have had a hand in building the trams.”
