City does the treble for super sports
Three world-class events to be held in September
This autumn make way for a Super September of Sport, with Edinburgh hosting three world-class sports events.
All three provide great opportunities for local residents to catch a piece of the sporting action for free.
First up is the World Duathlon Championships, held in Holyrood Park from 3-5 September.
With a home advantage, Broxburn local and Scotland internationalist Catriona Morrison has a real chance of victory in the women’s section after winning the 2007 and 2009 European Championships.
The World Youth Climbing Championships – at Ratho EICA from 8-12 September – is the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world for juniors.
The event will test more than 300 male and female competitors, from up to 75 nations, in speed climbing and lead climbing disciplines.
Edinburgh is the first UK city to host the Archery World Cup – in East Princes Street Gardens from 17-18 September.
The event is a great opportunity to experience the skill and tension of knockout archery matches between the best in the world, ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
There will also be a series of ‘come and try’ sessions to experience the techniques of archery for yourself.
Never before has Edinburgh held three major sporting events in one month. It demonstrates the city’s ever growing attraction for promoters.
With events being televised worldwide to up to 250 million viewers, it showcases Edinburgh and Scotland as the perfect destination for the biggest and best sporting events.
The Duathlon is free to watch, as is the archery, unless you prefer to reserve a grandstand seat for a small charge.
The climbing championships will be free for the practice days, however an entry cost will apply on competition days.
