Sounds great for our young musicians

Totally Sound receives £5,000

Music charity Totally Sound was the recipient of a cheque for £5,000 – handed over by City Centre Posters and Environmental Warden Chris Smith.

The money was raised by last year’s Legalised Advertising Poster Scheme, which tackled fly-posting during the Fringe by creating legal advertising sites.

Other councils across the country have been speaking with Chris Smith as they look to follow Edinburgh’s example.

Totally Sound is a music project open to all young people from 12 to 18. Based at South Bridge resource centre, it offers young people the use of a recording studio, instruments and amplifiers in a social setting.

Jack Bathcharj, 15, has been going along for six months. He plays rhythm guitar and vocals and is in a couple of bands. “It’s a really good opportunity to practice and gives young people something to do,” he said.

The poster initiative will be carried out again this year, with funds going towards other activities for young people.

Chris said: “Young people around Edinburgh come in to the city centre, so we want them to get involved and benefit from the poster initiative.

“A Battle of the Bands contest would give them something to work towards, getting involved in rehearsals leading up to it.”
