Neighbourhood survey sets local priorities
Residents help deliver improvements in the East
Each year the Council asks residents what they think about their neighbourhood and what needs to be improved.
The results from the survey carried out in autumn 2009 are very positive, showing that satisfaction with the way the Council is managing neighbourhoods and frontline services has increased each year.
Jim Hunter, East Neighbourhood manager, said: “Working with local people is the most efficient and effective way of doing things. I would like to thank all those local people who have given their time and energy to work with us. This has helped deliver real improvements right across the East Neighbourhood.”
“Local people want us to focus on developing more activities for children and young people. Examples of what’s been achieved so far include the new play area at Craigentinny, which has proved very popular.
“At Jewel Park we are developing a versatile ball court allowing basketball and kick-abouts, climbing stones and challenging play equipment.
“In Portobello and Craigmillar, a partnership approach has created more school holiday activities, delivering additional sport and fun for children and young people.
“We’re changing the way community safety officers and the Police work together to ensure local people have more say on how we tackle local issues. We regularly ask for feedback on how we’ve handled antisocial behaviour complaints.
“There is no substitute to listening and acting locally.
“Our resident-led inspections give people living in an area more influence over how we maintain their neighbourhood.”
