Neighbourhood survey sets local priorities

Residents help deliver improvements in the North

Each year the Council asks residents what they think about their neighbourhood and what needs to be improved.

The results from the survey carried out in autumn 2009 are very positive, showing that satisfaction with the way the Council is managing neighbourhoods and frontline services has increased each year.

Peter Strong, North Neighbourhood manager, said: “Neighbourhood management means taking local action on local priorities.

“In the North Neighbourhood, residents want us to improve facilities for children and young people. So in the last year, we’ve installed ball courts at Dalmeny Park and Henderson Street, held family fun days, worked with partners to develop activities during school holidays and all of this is supported by a programme of events run all year round in our local libraries.

“In Leith, street cleanliness is a priority, so we’ve introduced dedicated barrow beats (see back page).

“Local people also want us to improve safety in the area, so we’ve implemented various projects like the upgraded lighting in Victoria Park.

“I’m a great believer in continuous improvement by knowing what is happening in communities and dealing with their issues.

“There are some brilliant projects, developments and people in the North Neighbourhood and when we work together, there is no stopping us.”
