Neighbourhood survey sets local priorities
Residents help deliver improvements in the South
Each year the Council asks residents what they think about their neighbourhood and what needs to be improved.
The results from the survey carried out in autumn 2009 are very positive, showing that satisfaction with the way the Council is managing neighbourhoods and frontline services has increased each year.
Susan Bruce, South Neighbourhood manager, said: “Our residents tell us that parks are important to them.
“In the south we have 25 parks to look after and we are working on a programme of improvements.
“For example in Ferniehill Community Park we’ve created new flowerbeds, planted new trees and natural bulbs. We’ve made the park more welcoming with improved signage and notice boards and, for the local children we’ve improved the play area.”
In Dumbiedykes, local residents told us they wanted more activities and support for young people as well as more use of the Braidwood Centre.
“We’ve responded by funding a programme of summer activities for local young people,” she said.
“We’re also funding a new service which will help local unemployed young people get a job or a place in training or education.
“Both of these services will operate from the Braidwood Centre.
There is no substitute for listening and acting locally.
“It is a different approach and one that residents can see is working,” Susan said.
