Neighbourhood survey sets local priorities
Residents help deliver improvements in the South west
Each year, the Council asks residents what they think about their neighbourhood and what needs to be improved.
The results from the survey carried out in autumn 2009 are very positive, showing that satisfaction with the way the Council is managing neighbourhoods and frontline services has increased each year.
Mike Avery, South West Neighbourhood manager, said: “Listening to local people is crucial as it lets us know what’s important and what we should be focusing our efforts on.
“For example, we know that more activities for children and teenagers is a priority for people in South West and the Libraries 4U initiative at Wester Hailes Library is focusing on creating a positive library experience for young people, encouraging them to participate more and get involved with a range of activities.
“To keep the streets clean and free from vandalism, we’re continuing to tackle street litter and we’re piloting a new approach to graffiti removal in the Longstone area.
“Road and traffic improvements are always a high priority and we’re getting the community involved to help us get it right.
“Now local people have the opportunity to say where the money should be spent through Neighbourhood Partnerships.
“We’ve also reviewed our business processes to improve how we tackle potholes.”
