Pupils draw on the local landscape

Results of Gaelic art project now on show

Children from Tollcross Primary School and Bun-sgoil Shlète in Skye teamed up for an art project at the Fruitmarket Gallery, called Air Lomlaid.

Air Lomlaid (On Exchange) is an ambitious 18-month education project, conducted in Gaelic, and involving 60 primary school pupils.

Inspired by a process devised and developed by artist Julie Brook, the children learned to draw and paint in the urban and rural landscapes of Edinburgh and Skye.

They also worked with poets, animators and filmmakers to create individual sketchbooks, drawings, collaborative large scale artworks and films, all brought together in the exhibition.

After being exhibited at the Fruitmarket, the works are now on show at Skye’s Sabhal Mor Ostaig, Scotland’s Gaelic college, until 25 July.
