Hopes high as new school opens
Super facilities to be shared
Innovative design
The new St Augustine’s RC High School was officially opened on 30 April as part of a £180 million Council rebuilding programme.
The school, which shares a new campus with Forrester High School, has innovative design features, modern facilities, a purpose-built theatre and rooftop terraces with magnificent views over the surrounding countryside.
Forrester and St Augustine’s schools are also set to receive a second 3G sports pitch, following an allocation of £466,000 to enhance the existing facilities.
The two schools already boast new indoor and outdoor sports facilities which include an existing 3G pitch, a 2G pitch and a 25-metre swimming pool.
It is hoped that these new facilities will bring opportunities for pupils and residents of west Edinburgh to get active and take advantage of high- quality sports facilities.
A third generation pitch closely mimics the playing characteristics of a good quality natural grass surface.
They are able to cope with much more intensive use, require less maintenance and are less affected by severe weather conditions than natural grass.
