Council to open Gaelic Primary
Education
The former Bonnington Primary School building is to be transformed into Edinburgh’s first Gaelic Primary School.
The Council has received Scottish Government funding to develop the standalone Gaelic primary and nursery school, which is set to open in August 2013.
Earlier this year, the Council consulted on plans to extend Gaelic education provision in the city due to a rising demand for places and the overwhelming feedback from parents.
Those who participated in the consultation were in favour of opening a standalone school, rather than extending the current Gaelic Medium Unitwhich has been based in Tollcross Primary School for over 20 years.
Children currently attending the Gaelic Medium Unit at Tollcross Primary School will have the opportunity to transfer to the new school.
