We’re ready for a white Christmas

Winter weather

While we are all hoping to avoid another winter like the last two, the Council is prepared to deal with whatever the weather brings. We are urging residents and businesses to be prepared too.

After a huge exercise to review and improve our winter plans, we have tripled our salt stocks, bolstered our fleet of specialist snow-clearing vehicles and will treat more roads and pavements than before. We also have more information on our website and in leaflets.

David Lyon, head of Environment for the Council, said: “After last winter, we carried out an extensive review of Edinburgh’s response to the severe weather. We’ve used this feedback and our own experiences to improve our plans. We have also listened to what you told us and will provide more advance information to help you plan for the next day. So we will use our website, Twitter and local media to provide more information on schools, gritting, waste collection services and travel disruption.”

Read on to find out more about our plans and what you can do to make sure you are prepared if the snow and ice strikes again.

More information is also in your local Outlook.
